Week one (3/15) of my first semester of PH 100: FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTOGRAPHY with Andrea Land

Shoot and post one self-portrait. What strategies might you use to convey a bit of your personality in your image of self?

In addition to submitting your self-portrait, please also describe your experience shooting your self-portrait. Discuss the decisions you made regarding the environment, clothing, lighting. What are you are expressing (e.g., pose and/or facial expression)? Are you revealing something about yourself? Are you creating a persona? Please write 100-150 words on this topic.

This assignment was extremely difficult for me. I have never liked my photo taken, but it has gotten worse. I am now very uncomfortable with my new heavier body. So, I chose clothes that hide my weight. The jacket was added only because it is really cold (hadn't planned on that one).

I wanted soft lighting so I picked this shady spot. I love textures. I originally selected to shoot next to the brick house but didn’t like the shots so moved to the barn.

In the end, I was not pleased with any of the photos really, but went for the one that felt like it had a little mystery to it. I feel it reflects the fact that I am almost always lost in thought.
