Something Personal Assignment

Week two (2/15) of my first semester of PH 100: FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTOGRAPHY with Andrea Land

When I approached this assignment I began by trying to define what could be personal to me. I debated on who or what would be more personal and why. Then it occurred to me what could be more personal to me than my journal. I have carried and

written in a journal since I was about nine. It has been my closest confidant through out my life.

The problem now became how do you make a book interesting or special. How do you make it speak? That is when I decided Why not let the book speak for itself? I knew right away the exact entry to let talk. I thought about adding shadows to it as well.

I think that my original intent is in the image, but with a slightly different interpretation than the original thought.

The image contains the entry of my journal the day I realized photography is and always has been my passion. I wrote that day about wanting to return to school to pursue photography as a career. The shadow is of my hand and pen forming a heart on the page. The heart would be a symbolic attribute of my passion for photography and my journal (who has been my best friend in times when it felt as if no one else cared enough to listen.)

I think that I successfully captured the essence of what is personal to me.
