In My Minds Eye

Week two (1/15) of my first semester of PH 100: FUNDAMENTALS OF PHOTOGRAPHY with Andrea Land

There is a photo that I would love to take. It is of my grandfather he is seated in his recliner, a vintage 1950’s gold colored chair with the arm rests discolored and worn from use. He is sitting with his legs crossed and a coffee cup in hand. His crystal blue-eyes gaze out the window observing the morning early birds. The shadows of the early morning light accentuate the deep lines of this time weathered features. His face is relaxed as he is lost in his thoughts of the past, present and/or the future. I set the focus of the camera to blur all the objects around him and focus just on him. I am ready just as the morning sunlight bursts through the high eastward facing window, by his left shoulder, creating a halo effect in his soft white hair. I capture this image because I know that there are going to be very few days left to witness this moment. Alas, this photo will only ever be in my “minds eye”. My grandfather passed away eleven years ago this month.
